John Schneider, known for his role as Bo Duke in the popular The Dukes of Hazzard has been slammed by comparing Beyonce to a urinating dog in what many have claimed is a racially-motivated comment against the singer.
The 63-year-old was speaking to a conservative news outlet, which won’t help his defense, and said that Beyonce‘s effort to try country music was no different to a dog leaving its scent on the land.
The host also tried to invoke more political vitriol from the actor by suggesting that « lefties » (left-wing people) won’t « leave any area alone », apparently believing that they cannot enjoy country music, which Schneider didn’t rise to.
« They’ve got to make their mark, » Schneider said of Beyonce to One American News. « Just like a dog in a dog walk park. You know, every dog has to mark every tree, right? So that’s what’s going on here. »
As a result, many fans feel that comparing Beyonce to a canine is racism and that it highlights unacceptable language conventions directed at ethnic minorities from majority-white societies such as the United States.
One user took to X, formerly Twitter, to write, « Beyonce can do whatever the f**k she wants to do she doesn’t need your permission John Schneider. »
A second said, « Can we all agree that John Schneider is a hateful ignorant jackass. »
Whilst a third wrote, « John Schneider was born in New York and moved to Atlanta at the age of 14. Just because he slapped on some Levi’s and pretended to be southern 4 years later for Dukes of Hazzard does NOT make him an expert on what is and isn’t country.
« He’s a racist jackass is what he is. »
Beyonce’s country music controversy
The Single Ladies singer, aged 42, decided to experiment with a new genre after dominating the pop music scene for the last two decades and released two tracks titled 16 Carriages and Texas Hold ‘Em during Super Bowl LVIII.
However, the reception wasn’t immediately great. One radio station in Oklahoma, KYKC, refused to play the songs insisting they are a « country music station. »
After receiving criticism for racism from fans, the station attempted to justify itself by claiming it’s a small market station, thus they will not help break an artist and she needs to chart better to be played more.
They later went back on their decision and began to play her Texas Hold ‘Em, showing a photo of her song on X, Twitter.
