Real Madrid have already earned 403million ($433m) in commercial rights in 2023 without the presence of Kylian Mbappe, according to a newly-released financial report.
The Frenchman’s signing is likely to be an added boost to its expansion strategy in a market where, as EFE learned from industry sources, it would have an ‘accelerating effect’ on the increase in LaLiga’s television rights.
Deloitte’s latest findings show that Real Madrid are leaders in every list of revenue, as well as the recent UEFA list. Of their 831m invoiced, 16 per cent more than the previous campaign, it added 403m from commercial rights, 306 from TV rights and 122 from ‘matchday’; data without the presence yet in the team of Jude Bellingham, the club’s franchise player, who arrived this summer.
With the announcement of Mbappe and his June 30 departure from PSG, analysis of the situation has already begun. Is the French league losing such a remarkable asset that its TV rights are devalued? And, in turn, would Mbappe‘s presence immediately increase the price of these rights in Spain by signing for Real Madrid?
No loss of revenue
Spanish soccer industry experts consulted by EFE are clear that the impact would not be devastating to the French league, where the rights relate to the period of 2024-2029 and where figures of ($968m) are being managed for the global rights.
« The departure of a top player does not entail a loss of income. In Spain, Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi left and the system continues to function with the same parameters, in progression.
The system, the credibility of the competition and solid and powerful clubs are key to the stability of the championships. What does have an influence is the arrival of a great player, which does have an accelerating effect on growth ».
That new face doesn’t even have to be a global star, but one that has a mature market. For example, in Spain, it works in the sale of rights to have a high-profile player in South Korea. LaLiga’s greatest dream, which is very difficult to realise, is to have an Indian player at a club.
But with Mbappe, there is certain to be a huge impact – in a positive way – on Real Madrid‘s finances from a commercial standpoint.
