Head coach Andy Reid was fundamental for the Kansas City Chiefs’ two-time championship. After the victory in Super Bowl LVIII, it is difficult to imagine the team without the veteran coach on the sidelines, and the questions about his future do not stop coming every time he takes the microphone.

Still celebrating the 25-22 victory over the San Francisco 49ers, Reid had to answer those questions again. With adrenaline coursing through his veins, the coach simply replied: « Yeah… Sure. »

Although he immediately added, « I’m mad at [Bill] Belichick and Pete [Carroll]. Now I get asked all those questions, » referring to inquiries about his eventual retirement when he just turned 65.

Hours after the historic win, when asked the question again, Reid was a far more clear in saying that he still hasn’t thought about retirement. « Honestly, I haven’t even thought about it, but I got asked it, » he declared.

Reid’s future seems very clear for him

Without directly answering the question, the Chiefs’ HC explained, « I’m still kind of in awe of the game and what went on there, so I really haven’t thought why or what or anything else. »

« But people keep asking me, and I keep saying, ‘Why didn’t [Bill] Belichick and Pete [Carroll] retire?’ Ask those old guys those questions. But I’m the old guy now, so I guess I’m gonna be asked that, » he admitted.

However, he reiterated that he hasn’t even asked himself the question: « I really haven’t gone there. I haven’t really thought about it. »

His Chiefs are waiting for him back

Chiefs owner Clark Hunt said he expects the coach to return next season. « I expect Andy to be back next year as we go for the three-peat, » he assured in statements to NFL Network.

Jokingly, Hunt explained, « My pitch to (Reid) is Patrick’s under contract for another eight years. » In a more serious tone, the Chiefs CEO explained: « I know Andy loves what he’s doing. We certainly appreciate him as a family. Our organization is what it is because of Andy, and he’s got a special relationship with everyone in it. »

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was less explicit but admitted that Reid is a fundamental part of his success. « I don’t think I’d be the quarterback that I am if I didn’t have Coach Reid being my head coach. »

The question of Reid’s return seems to be resolved, but with a certain degree of expectation, given the emotional moment that the entire team is going through. Certainly, fans and players hope the HC takes the opportunity to make the Chiefs the first three-time champion in the Super Bowl era.
