Eagles’ Fletcher Cox didn’t miss the chance to rub Deebo Samuel’s Super Bowl loss in the face

Even if they are somewhat scarce, the San Francisco 49ers-Philadelphia Eagles match-ups are very intense. That has resulted in a bitter rivalry between two of the icons of those teams: Eagles’ defensive tackle Fletcher Cox and 49ers’ wide receiver Deebo Samuel.

Since 2019, when Samuel joined the 49ers, the two teams have met four times, including the NFC Championship game in 2023. The results have been even, with two wins per side, although Philadelphia won the NFC title by beating San Francisco 31-7.

The confrontations have caused Cox and Samuel to exchange words with some frequency. Therefore, it is not strange that the Eagles defender has decided to take advantage of the Niners’ recent defeat in the Super Bowl at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs by 25-22.

Cox’s latest barb

Not even two hours had passed since the final whistle of Super Bowl LVIII, which was resolved in overtime, when Cox had already posted a couple of messages on his Instagram stories, adding insult to Samuel and the 49ers’ injury.

« Keep the Eagles out cho mouth, Boe, » Cox demanded, tagging Samuel in the post. In a second post, the defender added, « I still got some you ain’t got, » referring to the championship ring he and Philadelphia won by winning Super Bowl LII against the New England Patriots.

To complete, the player admitted that he had already thought about the barb beforehand: « Ya!! I be holding this one in son!!!!! »

Samuel is not an easy target

The 49ers receiver fired the first salvo in this new exchange between both players. This week, in one of the multiple press conferences before the Super Bowl, Samuel dismissed any possible rivalry with the Eagles.

« I consider rivalries close games. We ain’t going to talk about that no more. That’s over with, » Samuel responded to a question referring to the recent results of the games between both teams.

Specifically, the receiver could have been referring to the game this December, when San Francisco beat Philadelphia 42-19. Although it doesn’t compare to the loss in the Championship game, at least Samuel and the Niners can say that they are still ahead in the series between both teams with a record of 21 wins to Philadelphia’s 15 and one tie.
